| In our society today blended families are the norm not the exception. Children are so important to this Blending, and quiet often the harmony, and happiness of the wedding will greatly depend on the children, why not include them in a very special way. With children present, the wedding ceremony also becomes the proclamation of a new family or a "family wedding." Generally speaking, children will accept a parent's remarriage more readily when they feel included in the wedding plans, the wedding ceremony and are given a tangible symbol of being embraced by a new family; perhaps a beautiful bracelet, a gold-banded birthstone ring or some other significant token of love. Blended families are often referred to as step-families or co-families. Many ceremonies require some action on the part of the children some don't. Consider the Unity candle or Sand ceremony or even allowing the children to write vows and share them after mom and dad do! If this is too much you can ask the kids to present mom and dad in a traditional hand transfer. Give me a call and I can go over all the wonderful ways I have seen children included in ceremonies. |
